On the sidelines of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, Jiao Xiaoping, Director General of China Public Private Partnerships Center (CPPPC) met with Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) on Sep.4th. They had an in-depth conversation on future cooperation.
Mr. Jiao Xiaoping said that China-Africa cooperation is an integral part of materializing the Belt and Road initiative and building a community of shared future for mankind. UNECA has been playing a vital role in promoting the development of Africa, and CPPPC is ready to strengthen cooperation with UNECA to facilitate capacity building, infrastructure construction, economic and social development by training, PPP project pipeline and communication facilitation for the demand and supply side. CPPPC is now working with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). The two sides are putting in place an Asia-Pacific PPP and infrastructure financing network so as to improve infrastructure construction in this region.
Ms. Vera Songwe welcomed Mr. Jiao’s suggestion and expressed that UNECA is willing to work closer with CPPPC. The two sides can carry out research on standardized PPP contracts and explore suitable financing models and risk-sharing methods for African projects. In this way, Africa can really attract Chinese investors to participate in infrastructure construction on the continent. She thanked Mr. Jiao’s invitation to the 4th China PPP Financing Forum to be held in November in Shanghai and would come with African PPP projects for promotion.
